Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager graphs.

So the custom reports let me select any of a vast array of great and useful fields.
And I'd like to graph one of them, specifically unrealized gain (specific shares/lots).
Now, obviously cost and unrealized gain are related(ish), the Cost+Value graph type isn't quite what I need.
Any ideas on how to get a nice view of my unrealized gains?

Yes, use the "Gain" graph type, and turn off the option "Graphs / Options / Historical Cost". This will plot the unrealized gain or loss on your currently owned shares only.
Note, this is related to the Cost - Value graph, in that it is the difference between the Cost and Value.
For more a more detailed explanation of this graph (or any graph type), select "Help / Help on Graph" while viewing it.

So that seems to work well for increases in cost during reallocation (buy/sell/exchange) but it doesn't reflect the increase in basis due to distributions.
Example:
I buy $1000 (10x$100) of FABCX, it appreciates to $1100. (cost = $1000)
I sell $550 of FABCX and buy $550 of FDEFX (cost = $1050)
FABCX gives a $10/share distribution. (cost = $1100)
However, the chart type you described will still show cost = $1050, as if the distribution never occurred.

Yes, the graphs plot cost as the "Out Of Pocket" (OOP) cost. This is different from your tax cost basis, by the amount of any distributions. The OOP cost is useful for seeing your overall break-even point. For more, see the documentation on Out Of Pocket cost.

Thanks, Mark -
Useful as this may be, is there a way to graph the tax basis? (or any other value that is present in, say, the custom report window)

Hi Matt,
Sorry, no. There isn't an option to plot the tax cost basis, only the out of pocket cost. It sounds like you're looking for a "Custom" graph, where you can choose which field is plotted. There is no such graph type today, you can only choose from the list of available graphs.
