Custom Fields

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby divinest » Sat Jan 25, 2020 4:37 pm

Hi Mark - Noticed all my user defined custom fields were missing (had about 25 defined), Tried restarting the programs still the same. All the reports with user custom defined fields were not populating as well. Luckily had a recent backup and restored the file, ended up getting all the user custom defined fields back, however the ones added since the backup is lost.
Any thoughts on why would all the user defined fields would get removed ? Is that a bug, not sure how to recreate the issue, however wanted to see if you have seen this before? Thanks much

Hi divinest,

All of these preferences are stored in the registry (or fmprefs.txt if using portable mode). I can't say how they were lost, but if something cleaned the registry or you uninstall Fund Manager, that will cause a loss of these preferences. When you restore, you can choose to only restore the registry preferences, and not your data.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark I am not using the portable mode. All the other preferences were still retained, the only thing i noticed as missing is all my user defined custom fields.

Hi divinest,

I'm not sure what happened. You can view this registry section using "regedit". There should be 2 values in the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\Fund Manager\CurrentVersion\custominvprops

One called "version", and another called "info".
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I do see those two values populated, however i think i need to clarify when i say custom user fields i am referring to the following ones shown in the screen shot. The field user defined in the custom report with pro edition, when the issue occured there were no fields shown in the drop down until i restored the back up

Hi divinest,

Sorry, I misunderstood. Those are also stored in the registry, at the location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\Fund Manager\CurrentVersion\userdefinedfields

If you look at the "nCount" value, that shows the number of user defined custom report fields.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi divinest,

It looks normal. If you're able to reproduce the problem somehow, please let me know.
Thanks,
Mark
