Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by 4Profits » Sat Aug 01, 2020 10:59 am
Mark, In the past you had an interface to coinmarketcap for price retrieval but I think you dropped it for Yahoo. The problem with Yahoo is it does not support many of the smaller coins. Would it be possible to see if CoinGecko.com had an API you could use or even coinpaprika.com they seem to have a much more diverse selection. Thanks. Jim

Mark, In Browsing the CoinGecko web site they seem to have a very full API. They say that they support over 7700 coins compared to Yaho0 118. So far I have not found a coin I have heard of or read about that is not listed on CoinGecko. Please consider adding this for price retrieval .

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the information, that does look like a great server to add.

Hi Jim, We've released an update that adds support for retrieving cryptocurrency quotes from CoinGecko. You can read about it here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5460

Mark, At first a was a little disappointed because nothing was retrieved. I spent the morning looking at their web site and my crypto in FundManager trying different symbols. Finally I found a list of all 7000 Plus names and symbols on their API Link. Could not find a fast way to download so I just selected all the text and copied to clipboard. Then pasted it into a word file where I could use search. Most of the crypto symbols where the name For example Bitcoin has a symbol of BTC but you cannot use that as a symbol to retrieve. Instead you need to use the name BITCOIN. Digix Gold symbol DGX on their site has to have DIGIX-GOLD as the retrieve symbol. There are many other examples but I was able to find them all in the file. Thanks for this update it it is a great tool for us that like to gamble with some small crypto Alt Coins. Now if we just had an exchange that had 7000 plus coins where we could buy all on one site. Thanks, again especially for the quick turn around. Long time user Jim

Hi Jim, Glad you were able to get it working. We did try to document this (that you have to use the ID value and not the symbol, and how to find it) on the server specific section here: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/int ... #CoinGecko

Mark, I have been using the CoinGecko retrieval since you released it and it is great. I have noticed that it only retrieves the Close. Is it possible to get the Open, High, Low and Volume also. I know that it is available on their site but not sure if it is available through the API
Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,
I see they have a 24 hour volume/high/low, but I don't see an "Open" on their site. Maybe that isn't applicable for cryptocurrencies? Their simple API (which is what FM uses) offers the current price and optionally the 24 hour volume, but not the high/low, or an open.

Mark, Does the CoinGeco server do historical prices. I have not been able to get that to work.

Hi 4Profits, No, this server only updates current prices. See the details here.
