move existing investment between sub-portfolios

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

needing to move investment(s) from an IRA sub-portfolio to a ROTH sub-portfolio.
attempted to drag and drop but realized the original transaction within the CASH account has not moved. I also reviewed the make investment from existing investment but that did not seem to do what I needed.

than said what is the preferred process to make this update.

thanks

Hi Gary,

It depends on what happened, and what you want to do... Often times dragging/dropping is the easiest/best solution, as it just does a complete move of whatever you want, including all the history of whatever you move. The other option is to transfer the shares as of a certain date. To do this, right mouse click on the source investment, and choose "Investment Data / Transfer Between...". This will record transfers, to move your currently owned shares to a new investment, as of a certain date.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark

did a drag and drop (left mouse) test to move transaction from one sub-folder to another. The item moved successfully however the purchase transaction in the default cash account did not.

These are incremental investment transactions and not the entire sub-folder. if the transfer process is used the purchase date becomes the date of transfer and any backup within a cash account is absent.

thanks

Hi Gary,

Yes, if you move an investment, it doesn't change the transactions in the default cash.

If you use the Transfer Between method the cost basis purchase date is maintained, as it uses transfers. The transfer date is separate from the date acquired in a transfer. Only the shares owned are transferred, there is nothing that happens to the cash account when using Transfer Between.
Thanks,
Mark

thanks Mark

I'll need to re-enter those transactions into the appropriate folder as I need the cash history within the folder holding the investments

thanks

Okay. One tip, is if you use copy/paste in the Data Register you can have it record the corresponding cash entries.
Thanks,
Mark
