Loading Price data causes FM to freeze

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Noticed a price deviation in a graph for BCE on April 15/2022 so I opened the investment to all transactions and then in upper right corner under Data type: selected prices. The data takes a few moments to load usually but today the program freezes.

Have to stop FM and then restart.
running FM 2022.17.2.100 on windows 11 with 64-bit operating system, intel i5 -9400 quad core processor with 32 GB of Ram

Any suggestions?
I will restart the machine and refresh cache while I wait for your thoughts

If this problem persists after re-starting, can you email me the investment file (*.dat), so I can take a look from here? I will email you, so you can reply to that.

The restart was helpful to be able load the price data one time only. After that it either freezes or stops loading and bounces me back to the investment screen. Other times if I just leave it it will load while displaying Data Register: BCE (Not Responding)
once loaded the error goes away and I can edit the price data if it loads otherwise I must close FM and restart the program.

Thanks, I received the investment file. I wasn't able to reproduce any problems with just the data file. It loaded all the prices okay in the Data Register multiple times without error. We have a couple of options to debug this more:

1) Create a *.FMB backup using "File / Backup..." and email this to the same address as before. This will be sending us a complete copy of your data, so if you'd prefer not to do this, see #2.

2) Call our office during the week, and we can do an online meeting and observe the issue on your PC. Our number is 480-705-0129.

I have sent the data file the issue is intermittent and happens various investments - today with JNJ and BCE

Hi twj332,

Thanks for sending the *.FMB file. I restored from that, and tested JNJ and BCE as well as many others under the "Prices" data type. I also tried exiting, and coming back in. I wasn't able to reproduce a problem. These intermittent type issues can be difficult to diagnose.

When you load an investment in the Data Register and there is a lot of data, you'll normally see the scroll bar on the right start to shrink, indicating there are many lines of data being added to the list. When this problem occurs, do you see this little scroll bar handle shrinking? Does it lock up immediately, or after the scroll bar seems that it has populated data?

One option that may provide insight (and might also be a workaround) is:

Options / General Preferences... / Data Register Display / Speed Mode

If you turn that on, does this prevent the problem from occurring?

Yes the scroll bar starts large and shrinks ... but then just stops - normally then the (not responding appears) at top or it bumps me out to the sub-portfolio page.

I will try the Speed Mode
