Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby 4MoreProfits » Sun Jan 10, 2021 9:31 am

Mark,
I have run reports on a portfolio and for some reason it never follows the way the portfolio is listed.
I can sort them by Name, or Symbol or Shares and it never comes out that way. I can't determine what order it selects. Is there any way to control how the report is displayed I would like to have it displayed in the order of name, or symbol or shares.

Also is there a defined report that shows the highest ending price, the current ending price and the percent off the high that the current price is or at least a function that calculates the percent off the high

Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,

Are you using the top level "Sort" menu from within your report? That is what controls how the data is sorted. You can sort by any report column, or the investment stack order. If you still have questions, maybe you can tell me which option you have selected under the "Sort" menu, and which report type you're looking at.

For your 2nd question, see a Custom report with the fields:

Highest close (between)
Share price (ending)
In the Pro/Adv versions you could define a field to calculate a percentage change between these 2, but there isn't a built-in field for this.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark I must be missing something. For Example:
I select the portfolio I want - Jims IRA
I select Type of report = Portfolio Performance - there is no sorting option here
I select Period = Current Month
I click Done and my report shows.
The Report has no menu to select sorting options or anything
If It would help I can send you a screen copy of the finished report

Hi Jim,

You don't do the sorting selection in the "Report Settings" dialog. Create the report, and then from within the Report window, along the top menu there is "File", "Edit"... and then "Sort". All Report windows have a top level Sort menu.
Thanks,
Mark

I must be doing something wrong. When I create a report I just:
1. go to the reports tab on the menu
2. select Portfolio Performance (No place is there to select sort.

No place do I see create a report in the drop down.

You have to create the report first, and then you will see Sort in the menu of the Report window. Try this:

1) Reports / Portfolio Value
2) The Report Settings dialog opens. Press "Done" to create the report.
3) Look along the very top of the window at the menu, you will see "Sort" in the menu.

Mark,
For some reason I don't get it. I look at the help file at the Report Window. I have never seen a window like that in the 10+ years of using FM. I tried to attach a MP4 file that shows what I do and the result but it is not successful. I never see the Report Toolbar or menu selection that is shown in the help file. All I get is a blue top with a close min or max button.
When I attach the file the post never is posted. so on this one I tried to attach what my report looks like when I hit done.
I selected : Reports from the menu
I selected : Portfolio Performance from the existing reports
I selected : Current Month for the period
I selected : Done
The report that I see is attached. No Icon menu, No file menu

Sorry but I am lost.
Jim

Hi Jim,

You see "Reports" on the menu, right? It is that same menu, but while you have a report window open, you'll see a "Sort" menu item in the same menu as where you chose "Reports". For example, it will look like:

I never see the menu which you have sort circled anywhere. Never, Never, Never
I will give you a step by step of what I do.
1. I have a Cost vs Graph displayed
2. I have the Portfolio Editor Displayed in a Split screen.
3. On the portfolio editor I select the portfolio I want to run the report on.
4. From the main menu I select the report options and a list of reports is displayed.
5. I select Portfolio Performance and a Report Settings Box is displayed.
6. I don't change the title, type, or sub Portfolio.
7. I don't check Subtotal By.
8. I don't check hide Totals.
9. From Period I select the current Month.
10. I select Done.
11. Note: so far no menus or tool bars have appeared.
12. The report is created and it looks like the PDF I have attached.
13. Note so far no title bars or tool bars have appeared. There is nothing else to select.
14. I have looked at the help file and if the window displayed there would be ever show up I could sort.
15. I can make a MP4 file to show you exactly what I am doing if there is some place to send it. I can't attach in the Message Board form. I have tried multiple times.
16. I can also be available if someone wants to remote connect to see what I am doing wrong.
17. Otherwise the report feature on my system does not sort! If I could ever see the window you showed in your response it would solve everything.

Hi Mark, having trouble with the sort menu.

I created and memorized a report. I then run the report and it displays. I see the sort menu and select a particular sort but nothing changes. I tried every sort option and nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

More troubleshooting,

Sort Menu doesn't work
Investment>Sort By> sorts the report

not all the selections in the report but when I sort by symbol it sorts the report by symbol.

It sounds like you are sorting the report by "Investment Stack". What type of report and what settings are you using for listing? The "Sort" menu sorts the report, but if you are sorting by "Investment Stack" (which is the default), then the "Investments / Sort" menu will affect the sorting of the report, as that menu command changes the investment stack order.

Maybe you can email me or post some screenshots illustrating the problem.
Thanks,
Mark
