Hi Mark,
After 5 years of Professional then Advisor, Portable/Cloud Mode looks perfect. But I am struggling and cannot see specific fix in Forum.
- I have always run FM under Windows (10 then 11) under Parallels Desktop on a MacBook. Normally I run FM on my laptop and take backups to drive W: which is an Ethernet network share on a small server.
- I can browse W: in File Manager and even run the installer from it. But it is never the target for an installation.
- When I try to enable Portable/Cloud Mode FM rejects the setting because it cannot write to C:\Program Files (x86).
- I tried to install from fmnadv2024p4.exe but could not browse to W: because none of my network drives were visible, only local paths eg Downloads. If I type W: into the destination path the Install button grays.
- I thought the problem might be local settings so I uninstalled FM from my laptop and deleted Hive Key Beiley Software.
- Same problem. FM installer will only accept local destinations like C: and D: (virtual CD drive) and local folders.
- Note that network discovery is turned on.
- I plugged in a USB data stick (allocated O: fine) but it doesn't appear as destination browse. So it appears to be (the only case I have come across in 15 years) that Windows is not convinced by emulated drive letters presented by Parallels.
- Bizarrely under Network, Мас, Home I can see iCloud and recognise its folders. But I am not ready to put all FM data into the cloud yet.
- I will revert to two laptops with backup/restore to pass the baton and a clear understanding of which laptop has the Master Data to update.
However, any suggestion to get it working as hoped?
Thanks.
Martin
