Gain-I vs Gain-V vs Gain-F

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Hi Mark,

I am trying to create a report that looks at gains for a given investment. I created a custom report with these three fields covering a range of time periods. I was surprised at how different the results were across the three functions. Variations included whether or not there were additional buys and or sells in the time periods. I read the help but am still trying to better understand the pros and the cons of each. Can you help me a little here? Is there any analogy to the change value calculations that use OOP verses change in price? What I really want is something that is showing me change in value over the period of time that takes into account the actual transactions and OOP costs.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

You might want to look at "Gain (btw)" instead if you just want a value of how much you've gained. See the documentation on the Custom report for an equation. This does factor in money you add/remove during the time period in question.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

That is what I am looking for. It would be great if Gain (btw) could be offered as a field with the same trailing time frames as the other Gain functions. Maybe that could be a new field Gain-OOP

3 months
6 months
1 year
3 years
5 years
10 years

There are multiple use-cases I have for this function in standard reporting.

Thanks again for a great product!

Hi Jason,

Okay, glad that is the field you wanted, and thanks for the feedback.
Thanks,
