Changing the investment type labels

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark,

Before applying some more changes to some default investment type labels I would like to know if some investment type have some special features associated to them, and so if special care should be taken for some of them.

For example, the Cash investment type has some options/features associated to it in the program, so should not be changed / renamed into something completely different.

But let say I plan, for example, to rename the slot "Bond" to something completely different (like "Structured Fund"). I want to be sure first that FM doesn't continue to associate this slot with bonds in some ways (for example, some specific options in the transaction dialogs), otherwise I'll leave it as is.

So, could you indicate the investment types in the default list that are associated with an option or feature somewhere in the program, and so which preferably shouldn't be changed to something completely different?

Thanks.

Hi Djobydjoba,

All calculations in terms of valuation/performance are independent of investment type. However, there are some report filters that apply to Cash type investments. Also, some new investment defaults are based off the investment type, such as transaction entry preference or internet retrieve settings. Also, when creating new investments automatically (like from transaction retrieve), the investment type is assigned based on the original labels.

In general, I'd suggest not changing them too drastically: keep "Stock" still "Stock" or "Equity". You can change the order to anything you want, without concern.

There is also control over how the internet retrieve settings are handled for new investments, based off type. See "Options / Internet Settings... / New Investment Defaults".
Thanks,
Mark
