updating old .dat files

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby bikeinxs » Wed Nov 13, 2024 12:44 pm

Some years ago a number of my data files were "left behind" in an update. I haven't been able to open them for a few years now. It doesn't affect my current portfolio but it does affect my historical ROI and other calculations.

Is there a simple way to update these files and make them compatible with the latest FM release? There are about 55 of them for old investments I no longer hold that somehow got dropped from the portfolio I migrated forward some time ago.

I don't know what version they are but most of them appear to have been last modified in January of 2014.

Hi bikeinxs,

Yes, you can just open them with the current version. The current version is fully backwards compatible with all prior versions, so if it was created in any version of FM, you can read it with FM 2024. You'll likely get a prompt asking for permission to convert to the current file format.

If you're not sure about them, you might start by opening them into a new temp sub-portfolio, examining them, and then moving them where they belong.
Thanks,
Mark
