Portfolio Editor: active sub-portfolio not visible enough

In the Portfolio Editor, I find difficult to see quickly in which sub-portfolio I am, when the focus is in the right part of the PE. I leave the tree all expand, so there are quite a few sub-portfolios in the tree. The active one is just indicated by a very light gray, barely visible, I find it is not enough. I have often to visually browse all the folders in the tree to at last identify where this light gray is.

It must also be said that I use more and more the Find command, so with quick jumps from an investment to another located elsewhere in the tree. And I use for the lists (PE) a font quite small (Tahoma 8pt).

I would like a bit more contrasted color of the currently active sub-portfolio in the left part of the PE, that can be seen with the peripheral vision without having to move the eyes specifically in the folder tree to find it.

What I mean with the example portfolio:

There is a similar difficulty to identify the highlighted investment in the right part of the PE when it is selected from the Find command. It's the same light gray.
Or, when the focus is in the left part of the PE, to identify the currently selected investment in the right part of the PE.

I will call this light gray selection the "non focused selection".

I have to say I have set alternate rows of the PE to a similar light gray. So it is confused with that of the non focused selection.

I could try another color for the alternate row. E.g. like below, it's a bit better to identify but not great. And I don't really like colors other than gray for the alternate lines...

When you click, in the right part of the PE, below the list (empty area), there are no more selected investment. A dotted rectangle then surrounds the last investment that was selected. Ironically I find easier to locate the investment with the dotted rectangle than the one with the the non focused selection / light gray...

A suggestion would be to just use this same dotted rectangle for the non focused selection (while keeping the existing light gray). I think it will solve this visibility problem quite nicely.
And maybe find something else for the "non investment currently selected" situation (or don't even highlight it?)

Hi Djobydjoba,

Okay, thanks for the feedback and ideas. It would be nice to have it more obvious. These parts of the Portfolio Editor are currently using standard Windows controls (tree view and list view), and the standard colors based on the colors in Windows. I'm sure there are ways to override these.
