Is this a bug?
I have a portfolio of 14 investments.
If I choose Graphs/Portfolio Value, the value is shown as £385,876.62.
If I choose Reports/Portfolio Value, the value is shown as £385,844.41.
That's £32.21 difference. Why?
If I manually add up all the values of the individual investments, I come to £385,844.41, ie the Reports/Portfolio Value is correct.
I've just this week updated to v10 (Personal), and spent some time saying yes to the questions about upgrading all the investment and portfolio file formats. Could something have gone wrong?
Rgds

Hi John,
Are you looking at the value in the graph legend? Is your graph ending date the same as your portfolio value report date?

Well done Mark. The end dates are different by one day. I see now that in Graphs/Options/Display there is a check box "Omit Weekends on Portfolio graphs". This was checked, which yesterday (Saturday) set it at odds with the Reports ending date, which seems to include weekends always. Unchecking it leads to the Graph and the Report producing the same total.
I don't remember ever touching these Options, I assume I just accepted the default settings years ago when I first got FM. If that's the case, then Suggestion: Why not arrange for the default settings for Graphs and Reports to produce the same result? (Unless there's a good reason it's set this way......?)
Anyway, thanks for sorting me out.
Regards
John

Hi John,
Glad you got that straightened out.
The "omit weekends from graphs" is a new 10.x option, and is on by default. There is no equivalent for the reports. I would normally think though that your Saturday/Sunday balances would be the same as Friday, unless you've somehow specified a closing price for the weekend.

Ok understand. So that's why I hadn't spotted the discrepancy before.
I update prices in this portfolio on a Saturday, and they have to be manual, because there's nowhere FM can pick them up online from. These particular units only show the price struck at midday the previous day, so if I want the latest Friday price, I have to look them up on a Saturday. That's why they end up with a Saturday date.
Hmmm. Maybe it would make sense to have the "omit weekends..." as an option for Reports as well? To bring them both into line? It would save confusing innocent young souls like me anyway.....
Just a thought.
Regards
John
