Obtaining today's prices

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby SLO GUY » Fri Oct 30, 2009 2:35 pm

I am a brand new user and am missing something important in obtaining price files over the internet. When I request prices, I consistently get prices for the previous day. :( I have no problem manually posting prices and having the software behave properly. I did get a message at some point saying that Windows cannot find the fmadmin.exe file on the desktop. I moved the file there, but it did not solve the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is it maybe because you are retrieving mutual fund prices before they get posted for the current day? Can you give me an example ticker symbol, quote server, and time of update?
Thanks,
Mark

HI Mark,

All prices are one day old. After the close last night (10/30), I received a quote for KO of 54.090, MDY of 123.14, PFE of 17.55, and SPY of 106.65. As far as I can determine, all 80 some quotes downloaded at that time were 10/29 closes. Friday's closes should have been KO 53.31, MDY 119.62, PFE 17.03 and SPY 103.56.
Regarding mutual funds, they were 10/29 as well. VWELX was reported as 28.21 vs the actual close of 27.73.
This odd pricing has repeated itself on both 10/29 and 10/30. This morning I am getting 10/30 pricing, but I would expect that on Saturday. This day before pricing occurs at any time during or after the market that I have tried to update.
The prices seem to come from yahoo.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks.

Hi SLO GUY,

It sounds like you may be using "Yahoo (Historical)" instead of "Yahoo"? Make sure that under "Options / Internet Settings..." you have just "Yahoo" set as your "Default Quote Server". Then, when you retrieve, make sure you are using "Edit / Internet Retrieve / Prices...". If you are pressing the toolbar buttons, use the one that is blue, and labelled "PRC", so you are using the regular (not historical) default quote server.

Yahoo (Historical) is often a day late in updating the current quotes, but Yahoo is only 15 minutes delayed.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark. I had Yahoo historical. I have changed it. I expect Monday will be more fun. Hopefully, no more rookie errors.
