Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby 4Profits » Tue Dec 22, 2009 1:01 pm

I have a number of options that I retrieve prices for. I use the Yahoo server but for some reason I cannot retrieve a price for Microsoft 2011 $11 leap. The symbol I use is VMFAB.X -- When I type it into Yahoo I do get a price, but I can never get it to download. Any Ideas?

Hi 4Profits,

I just tested retrieving this symbol from Yahoo, and it worked okay. Please take a look at this investment's properties under "Investment Properties... / Internet Retrieve" to make sure it is set to retrieve, and retrieve from the expected server. I tested with version 10.3, quote module 410.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
I just closed my active portfolio opened a new investment used the symbol VMFAB.X. I am using version 10.3, QM 410, TM 136. IT fails to retrieve. I have had problems like this before. Every once in a while there just are symbols that will not retrieve.

Hi 4Profits,

Strange... I just tested it again, in a blank portfolio as a new investment, and it worked. It retrieved 20.6 for 12/23/09. To debug this, please try this:

1) Repeat your experiment where you close everything, and create just this one new investment, and then retrieve it from Yahoo.

2) Use your web browser, and go here. That should download a CSV file with the quote. Does it look okay?

3) Go to the folder:

Windows XP and earlier:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Fund Manager

Windows Vista and 7:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager

and look for the files:

comm_dll.txt and intlog.txt. Open up comm_dll.txt. It should contain the price info, formatted like this:

20.6000,20.6000,20.6000,5,12,23,2009 20.6000,VMFAB.X

You can also look in the intlog.txt file and it should contain the same data as from the link in step #2, and look like this:

"VMFAB.X",20.60,"12/23/2009","10:49am",0.00,20.60,20.60,20.60,5
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I closed down FM, Shutoff my computer, Restarted opened FM with no positions opened and added the new investment and then did a price retrieve. I was able to retrieve the current price. I then opened my existing investment and it was able to get todays price. I then tried to do a historical retrieve from 12/1 and it failed. could not update any investments on either option position.

Hi 4Profits,

Yahoo does not have historical prices for options, only current pricing through the regular "Yahoo" server.
Thanks,
Mark
