Retrieving Prices etc

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby trisamber » Thu Jun 10, 2010 2:55 am

I am using an evaluation copy of the Personal addition which I'm hoping will suit my needs (been a very long search before I got here). I have the ISIN and Sedol codes for our relatively small investments but I don't seem to be able to retrieve prices from Yahoo UK/Ire. I have entered the symbol code in Fund Manager as the ISIN followed by GBP which I thought was correct for Yahoo UK/Ire. I have broadband and am using window settings. I am obviously doing something fundamentally wrong and wonder if anyone can help. Also when adding a new investment, sometimes the data entry screen allows me to account for the commission and sometime it doesn't, again I think I must be doing something wrong. Thanks.

Hi trisamber,

You need to record the "symbol" for your investments, not the ISIN or Sedol. You can go to Yahoo - UK with your web browser, and look up your investments. For example, if you go here:

http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q?s=BP&m=L

You can see the symbol for BP is "BP.L", as shown in parenthesis in the table header, right after the company name. This is what you need to record as the symbol in Fund Manager, and then retrieve prices from this server. To set your quote server, use "Options / Internet Settings...".

The 2nd question about not seeing a place to enter commission is determined by your "Transaction Entry Preference" for each investment. See "Investment Properties... / Other" to set this. This property defaults to a certain value depending on the assigned investment type when the investment is created. For example, cash and no-load mutual fund default to "No Fees", where stocks default to "Commission Fees", but you can change them to whatever you want.
Thanks,
Mark
