As-Of Date.

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark,

I have a question regarding the Portfolio Editor and as-of date.

When downloading transactions from my brokerage house, I frequently get post-dated transactions. In today's downloads, for example, I got transactions dated 8/2/2010.

Does the Portfolio Editor show market values and cost basis for postdated transactions? I believe the answer is no, that the Portfolio Editor only shows data as of today's date. If so, is there a way to have the Portfolio Editor include post-dated transactions?

Thanks,
aviator

Hi aviator,

You are correct, the Portfolio Editor always shows information for your current computer's date. There is no option in Fund Manager to change this behavior, but if you really wanted to, you could change your computer's date to another date. Then the Portfolio Editor would display figures for that new date. Probably the better solution is to just create a report with the information you want. You can create reports for any date you want.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, Mark, using a report solved this problem.

Perhaps you can file the following suggestion with all the others I've made: When viewing a report, certain actions can be taken on a security. For example, right clicking on the security from within the report allows me to click on Investment Data (and a host of other features), which is very useful because I don't have to exit the report (and lose my temporary report settings) just to view something else. What's missing from the right click menu options, however, is the security properties. I use that quite frequently to hide a security and it would be nice to be able to do that from within the report.

On an unrelated topic, any idea when 10.7 will be ready? And any hints about what will be included?

Thanks,
aviator

Hi aviator,

If your report is set to list by "Investment", your right mouse menu should have an "Investment Properties..." command when over an investment.

There is no set date for 10.7, but it is probably getting close. There are several bug fixes, and a new bond amortization and accretion calculator will be included.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

You are indeed correct. I was looking for "Properties" (because that's what I'm used to seeing in the Portfolio Editor), not "Investment Properties". Thanks!

Glad to hear that bonds are getting attention. Our financial plan is to slowly shift to fixed income (read laddered bond portfolio) from equities as we get older, so tracking our bond portfolio will grow in importance.

Thanks again for your help.
