Performance Exclusion

I have a single account where 4 particular investments are those of the clients choice and I'd like to separate those for performance calculation purposes. I currently track those separate but online reconciliation becomes a tedious process. Is there an easier way?
Hi bwessely,
You could create 2 new sub-portfolios within this account sub-portfolio. Put the managed investments in one, and the client's choices in the other. Something like this: - Account - Manager - Client The account number and retrieve settings still stay at the Account sub-portfolio, not at the lower level ones.
How would I structure that with the client having 3 accounts and one of them being split? I want to have performance for everything but also just for the 3 accounts excluding the 4 investments in one of those accounts.
And a related question would be how to move an investment from one account to another - keeping the history intact?
Hi bwessely,
In that case I don't have a good suggestion. You can either continue to report on everything, including the client's investments, or you could make yourself a whole new hierarchy, with a copy of everything, except the client's investments. This is not recommended though, as then you have to make sure you keep your copy updated. It isn't really an ideal situation. It would look something like this:
where "Account 1 minus client positions" has the option to retrieve turned off, and just includes everything in Account 1, except those 4 investments. The real "Account 1" is where you would retrieve into, so you could reconcile against the full holdings. Whenever you bought a new stock you would have top copy it into "Account 1 minus client positions" manually. I really wouldn't recommend doing this, unless you trade very little, it isn't a clean solution, but I point it out as a possibility if you want to use it. There is no "exclude from performance" option you could put on a given investment or sub-portfolio. One feature we are considering for a future update that would help here are sub-portfolios that are soft links to other sub-portfolios. If we had that feature you could break Account 1 up into managed/un-managed sub-portfolios, and then link "Account 1 minus client positions" to the managed sub-portfolio of Account 1. To copy an investment, use the Portfolio Editor window. Select the investment to copy on the right side. Hold down Ctrl on your keyboard, and click/drag that investment over onto the desired target sub-portfolio on the left side. You should see your cursor have a small "plus" sign on it, indicating you are copying it. You can also use "Edit / Copy" and "Edit / Paste" to copy an investment. To "move" an investment, do the same thing, but don't hold down Ctrl on your keyboard. When you make a copy of an investment, you are putting that same investment file into multiple sub-portfolios, so if you make a change to that investment in either sub-portfolio, it will be reflected in both.
Thanks.
As a suggestion, I hope that future editions would let you export monthly performance #'s (all in one file vs. pulling them up individually). Also, that the time-weighted report would have Inception to date and/or have customizable columns.
Hi bwessely,
For your suggestion, do you mean have a report that shows performance for every month for the last X years, on a single report? This is something we are considering adding. You'd have to do it 6 months at a time now. On the TWR report, that would be good to choose the columns. For now, you can re-create this by creating a custom report, and adding these columns. There is an "inception" one as well.
On the first, that's exactly what I'd be looking for - so it's good to hear that may be in the works.
On the second - thanks - I see where it is.
