Default Asset Allocations for a Portfolio

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I am new to Fund Manager. I notice for the portfolios I have created using the wizard, the default asset allocations are 100% Large Cap Stock. Is there a way I can set the default Asset Allocation for a particular portfolio?

Hi jimkorein,

You cannot assign asset type for a whole sub-portfolio. You must do this at the investment level. Right mouse click on an investment, and go to "Properties... / Asset Type".
Thanks,
Mark

OK, this works for portfolios where I am doing transactions myself. But if someone else is transacting in a portfolio, and I just want to update it by retreiving transactions automatically, is there any way to assume the assets are something other than large cap stocks?

Hi jimkorein,

When Fund Manager creates a new investment, it first looks to see if any other investments with that same symbol exist. If so, then the new investment is created with the same asset type as that other investment with the same symbol. If there are no other investments with that same symbol, then new investments just default to the first asset type. I think you're looking for some way to set the default asset type for new investments on a per portfolio basis, but this feature isn't currently available. The default is always set as I described above.
Thanks,
Mark

Ok, thanks for the quick feedback. Just from a few hours, I am very impressed with both the design and implementation of the program.
