On a portfolio report, a stock held in several accounts is picking up a strange price. In the portfolio editor the price is correct. on the portfolio detail of the stock the price is correct, but at the bottom of the detail list and on the summary report, the price is incorrect. ust started yesterday, and only on this one stock I believe. What's going on?
Hi jnewton,
I'm not following where you are looking. What report type are you looking at? What is the "detail list"?
Its a portfolio report that sumarizes several accounts. Under the "Price" column this particular stock it picking up an incorrect price. If I move the curser over the stock and left clik it, it brings up the detail of the different account that stock is held in. In each case the detail shows the correct current price however, the total at the bottom of the report shows hte price that is carried forward to the summary report. The number of shares and extention of total value at the bottom of the report is correct but the current price is not.
Hi jnewton,
Not to be too particular, but there is no such report as a "Portfolio" report. Do you mean "Portfolio Value", or "Portfolio Performance"? In either of these reports, when you click on a line it opens the "Data Register". In the "Data Register", make sure you are looking at the "Prices" data type to see the recorded closing prices. Look at the date range or date of your report, and find the appropriate closing price in the Data Register under the "Prices" data type. There are no totals in the Data Register, so I'm not following that part of your question still. Totals in either the Portfolio Value or Portfolio Performance report will not show "prices", as prices are only for investments or symbols, not for sub-portfolios.
It is the Portfolio Value report sorry. I have just e-mailed you to the (fmforum address) 2 PDF's of what I'm talking about: One correct , one incorrect. You will notice on the TROW list, the cusrrent price is listed as $66.80 but the total at the bottom of the report is $44.32. The $44.32 carries over to the main report. The second report SE, all prices are correct.
If the fmforum address is incorrect, let me know a proper address so you can see what I'm talking about. Sorry for any confusion.
Hi jnewton,
Thanks for the PDF's, I did receive them. I believe you may have another investment with that same symbol in your sub-portfolio that is not being updated. I realize it isn't being displayed, but it may be hidden. Try turning on "View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios", and see if you can't see it. If you used the "File / File Operations / Hide Sold Investments..." command and turned off the option to retrieve prices for this hidden investment, this could cause this. Your report is filtering by symbol, and for the total line, Fund Manager is finding the price from the first investment it finds with that symbol. We should improve this to use the price from another investment if the first one found had to interpolate in order to find a price.
Hi jnewton,
The price for the totals line in this report just grabs the price from the first investment it finds with this symbol. It is an internal computation, that you have no control over. It would be better if we looked for a price, and only stopped looking once we found a price on the given date, rather than interpolating one if the first investment found doesn't have this price. I do think we can improve this for the next release.
It is looking through the investments, in the order they were opened, which you have no control over. I'd suggest just updating the price for that hidden investment. In the next release we will have this improved.

I thought I had my updating problem corrected by moving a closed portfolio to a separate folder/sub-portfolio in the Portfolio Editor. However a new problem has come up. In a current portfolio where an investment has been sold and closed, it will pick up an old price and post it on a Portfolio Value summary report. A look at the price detail indicates it is not updating the price for the closed stock. Based on suggestions above, I found the problem by using the View/Hidden Investments and then went to the File/File Operations and unchecked the Turn Off update comand. This is actually when the problem began getting worse. I now have about 10 stocks that aren't reflecting the correct price. I also updated to 10.9 over the weekend (I discovered this new problem on Monday). I also don't undestand why this problem has just started last week when when I've made no changes to the program. Please help. Thanks
Hi jnewton,
1) Are you still using the same report format you sent earlier? Do you have some investments with an updated price, and some without, and it is still showing the non-updated price using 10.9? 2) The "Hide Sold Investments" dialog can be confusing. If you've run it once, and turned ON the option to stop updating hidden investments, running it again with that option OFF, does not cause them to start updating again. The option says "Turn Off Price Retrieve for Sold Investments", so this option only ever turns OFF the price retrieve option for sold investments. To turn it back on, you would have to do it manually, or re-run this dialog with the other option "Turn On Price Retrieve for Non-Sold Investments", and set the date range such that your investments are considered Non-Sold. If you ever own any shares during the specified date range, the investment is considered non-sold. You can manually check the status of any investment under "Investment Properties... / Internet Retrieve / Retrieve Price". If you want a global view of this option for all your investments, run a Custom report with the field "Retrieve price" turned on.
Mark thanks for response.
Answer to #1) Yes I am using the same report format. Yes I have sone investments with updated price and some without. Non updated are investments where shares are closed in that particular portfolio, and Yes it is still showing non-updated price using 10.9. Answer to #2) The problem seems to be caused by the report picking up the price of a closed investment. I agree the Turn Off Updating option can be confusing, and I believe that is the source of my problem. I originally unchecked the box and another box popped up showing activity on a # of investments. However, the prices did not update. I believe I need to understand how to get these investments updateing turned on. Thanks

I think I got it. I found the earliest "Sold Investment" date and then went othe File Operations/Update screen and set the date range to start before that earliest date. Then unchecked the "Turn Off Update" box. Ran an update and the report now seems to be updating. Thanks for your help.
Hi jnewton,
1) I should have asked: Is it showing the non-updated price in the "Totals" section at the bottom? I would expect it to show the recorded price for each investment on the investment line, but the "Total" line should show the "best" price available, meaning one where it was recorded on the date of the report. 2) To turn on the price retrieve you can do it manually, or with that hide sold investments dialog. Manually: Right mouse click on the investment, and go to "Properties... / Internet Retrieve" and turn on "Retrieve Price". Dialog: Enter in a very wide date range that covers all periods where you may have owned something. This will mean everything will be considered un-sold. Turn on the option to turn on price retrieval for non-sold investments.
