Close out a fractional share postion

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby cbenenax » Sun Feb 27, 2011 8:15 pm

I have a position which (because of rounding, reverse splits, partial sales, etc.) is closed but contains a tiny fraction of a share in my FM portfolio.

I try and try to set up a dummy sale to eliminate that last fraction of a share from my portfolio, any fractional value I pick leaves me a new fractional share (long or short).

Is there no way to tell FM to sell everything that's left in the position, or to force the position to 0?? I do not want to lose the historical data.

Hi cbenenax,

You do need to record a sell for the exact number of shares, so that your balance is exactly 0. To help, go to "Options / General Preferences..." and set your share digits to display "6" significant digits. Now, go into the Data Register, and under the "Prices" data type you can see how many shares you own as of today, so you need to either record a new sell/buy or edit an existing sell/buy by this number of shares, so that you'll own 0 shares out to 6 significant digits.
Thanks,
Mark
