Closing 'old' investments

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Beagle47 » Sat Mar 05, 2011 4:21 pm

Hi Mark

I now have about a years investments in various portfolios and according to the master portfolio properties there are 150. Only about 40 are current. This isn't urgent but obviously in about 3 years I'll reach the 500 maximum open investments.
To close an investment I understand I can highlight it in the portfolio editor and delete it. Is there a way to 'bulk close' investments which have been empty and inactive for a given period? Even better, a way to archive old investments?

Thanks ........... Alan

Hi Alan,

It is not recommended to close them. Instead, hide sold positions. You can find instructions here:

http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/faq_hide_sold.php

You can do it in bulk. Closing an investment completely removes it, so it will not be included in any reports or historical performance calculations. It is better to hide them, so they do still get included.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark

Just as a follow up to this...a hidden investment will still be considered "open" for purposes of the 500/5000/50000 limit correct?

Paul, based on my experience the answer is yes, a hidden investment counts toward the limit.
