Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby janfl133 » Mon Mar 03, 2008 6:54 am

RBC Dain Rauscher has updated its program. When I tried to do a transaction retreive today I received the following message:

WinInet error code 12029. A connection with the server could not be established.

They tell me it should be a smooth transition and I have already changed my account numbers to the new account numbers.

Should I contact them or is the problem on your end?

A prompt reply would be appreciated.

Hello janfl133,

What program from RBC are you referring to? Fund Manager retrieves directly from their OFX server, and isn't relying/using any other program to do this.

The error message (12029) usually is a result of firewall software on your computer blocking Fund Manager's access to the internet. If you are running any firewall software, please tell it that it is okay for FM to access the internet. This can often need to be re-done after you've updated the transaction retrieve module in Fund Manager.
Thanks,
Mark

As of last Friday (before RBC changed) I was able to retrieve.

This past Friday I was able to retieve all brokerage accounts except RBC.

I checked my Firewall and Fund Manager is listed as an exception.

Could there be some other problem?

Hi janfl133,

Something is going on with this server. I tried, and got the same 12029 error when trying to retrieve from RBC. I then also tried using MS Money, and that failed as well. I can't say for sure it is the same error in Fund Manager and Money though.

It sounds like you are saying something with RBC changed. What was this?

Can you try downloading MS Money's free trial, and see if you can retrieve your account with Money? If you also get an error with Money, then you can call RBC, and ask them what is going wrong.
Thanks,
Mark

I don't think a reply is right. This is a new problem but I cannot find out how to do a new post.
My problems are many. Everything I try to do in Fund Manager, I receive this error message:
WSAE:12029. I tried allowing "fund manager" in my firewall. I tried disconnecting my firewall (very scary), to no avail. I cannot update Fund Manager, I cannot retrieve Prices from Yahoo or MSN, I cannot retrieve transactions from my Brokers. Can you please help!

Hi janfl133,

To post a new topic, instead of a reply, go to any of the top level forums, and press the "New Topic" button at the top of the list of posts. For example, this shows the list of questions in the "Prices & Transactions" forum:

viewforum.php?f=6

At the top/left of that page you'll see a "New Topic" button.

To answer your question, that 12029 means Fund Manager couldn't connect to whatever service you were requesting. If you're getting that with multiple different requests (different quote servers, transaction retrieve, etc) that is probably indicating something with your firewall is blocking Fund Manager. I assume you have a working internet connection? You might try again to make sure your firewall is set to allow Fund Manager to access the internet.
Thanks,
Mark

Thank you for your reply.

I have been using Firefox as my browser. I installed Internet Explorer. Like magic, I was able to access everything in Fund Manager. Go figure!
