Assign Default Cash Account to Investment

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Erwin Enz » Fri Apr 22, 2011 2:24 am

Hi Mark,
I like to assign a default cash account to individuals shares in a multi currency environment. Example: If I buy shares or get dividend of a share in USD, the transaction goes into the USD account. If I buy shares or get dividend of a share in EUR the transaction goes into the EUR account. Both currencies should be in the same sub portfolio. How can I manage this?

I know how to assign a default cash account to a portfolio or sub portfolio, but I would like to do this to individual investments, because I have different currencies in each sub portfolio with cash accounts for each currencies.
Thanks Erwin

Hi Erwin,

You should set up sub-portfolios for each currency within your account sub-portfolio. You can then have a separate cash account for each currency. For example:

Code: Select all
- Master Portfolio
   - Account ABC
      - USD Holdings
      - EUR Holdings
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your replay. I thought at this solution, but I don't like it to much because I already have Sub portfolios which are different organized. Maybe I have to try it with Linked Sub portfolios, but I think the currencies account will only be recognized in the main sub account. I did not really study this new feature of the linked sub portfolios, but I think I tried it and it did not work. Maybe I have to go the other way and turn it all around but this will be a lot of work.

It would be nice if you can in a future version include the option to attach a default account to to each investment, in the same way as you do it now in the portfolios.
Thanks for helping me
Erwin
