Transfer of Fund Manager to new computer

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Peter O'Malley » Mon Mar 31, 2008 6:00 am

I wish to transfer all my Fund manager files to a new computer. Do you have a recommended procedure. I ran into trouble when I first loaded Version 8.10 onto the new computer and then copied all the folios that appear in the Fund Manager folder within my Program folder on the C drive of the old computer via a portable disk. Formats etc appeared to be lost and some of the historical prices etc did not seem to transfer. I have now uninstalled Version 8.10 and deleted the copied folders.

I think I have te same issue as Peter - I wish to transfer my files and FM tool to a new computer, so I:
* downloaded the new executable (8.10) and installed it on the new computer,
* regitered it using my 8.x key and password,
And all seemed well until:

I attempted to copy the .dat and .mm4 files from the old computer. Not all of the .dat or .mm4 files are visible to copy. It seems the most recently created portfolios and investments are invisible to Windows explorer.

Interstingly, if I view the folder where they are saved using the FM program (for example, from the "open investment" dialogue), I can see them. It seems only FM can accsss them.

So when I copy the "My_data" folder using Windows Explorer, some data is lost.

Any ideas? I dont think its associated with the registry keys.

Thanks,
Tony

After a bit more research in your Forum I found the thread called "Fund Manager files in Windows Vista" which explains where the "invisible" files are.

I've now copied the files from the "VirtualStore" location to a location in a public place so all should b well.

Cheers

I, too, wish to transfer to a new/old computer, acutally moving back from a laptop with Vista to my main desktop computer with XP. I downloaded the latest version, opened the HELP and tried to imput my codes, the serial number and the license key. The programme would not take the information. What I got was this message:

Invalid License

Please make sure to enter all fields exactly as provided.
All fields are case sensitive.

I have put the codes in as they worked on the other computer but the new version of Fund Manager will not accept them.

Would you let me know what I can do about this?

Thanks,

johnreid
