Naming File for New Imported Transactions

I did a "Retrieve and Update Transactions from Broker." I answered yes when it asked something like if I wanted to include new funds. The import went fine and Fund Manager established files for the new funds. However, I didn't like the file names because the name was too similar to the same fund that I hold in my IRA. So I had to close FM and change the file names. Then when I opend FM the portfolio couldn't find the investments and I had to browse to the new file name. Did I do this correctly, or is there an easier way. Couldn't FM ask us to select a file name when it imports transactions for a new fund?
Hi H08590,
That method is fine, although harder... The easier way to rename an investment file is select it in the Portfolio Editor, and choose "File / Save Investment As...". When you retrieve transactions there is an "Options..." button next to the "Create New Investments Automatically" option. This dialog will allow you to manually set the filename and properties when it comes across new investments. It is easiest to just let FM create the investments for you, but if you want more control, like over the filename, you can un-check the option to create investments without prompting, and it will prompt you for all the info.
