Security symbols

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby davcbr » Sun Jul 31, 2011 6:28 am

I have a test version of FM Prof, and amd just getting started looking it over. I have a question concerning updating securities. It looks to be that you use Yahoo for historical pricing, and transactions can be downloaded fro my brokerage. I use Fidelity. My question is that often Fidelity and Yahoo name the symbols differently. When downloading a stock from Yahoo that is from the Pink Sheets, there is a ".PK" suffix. Fidelity does not do this. Thus I have "LYSCF.PK" to download from Yahoo for my charting programs, but my Fidelity history uses "LYSCF".
If I were to purchase this program it would be the firt to use both sets of data. Is there a way to reconcile this and ensure that both refer to the same security?
Thanx

Hi dc,

For price retrievals, Fund Manager does use the "Symbol" property. (You can choose which quote server to use by the way. See "Options / Internet Settings...".)

For retrieving transactions from your broker, Fund Manager utilizes the CUSIP. So, you can set the symbol based on what the quote server requires, and the CUSIP will take care of making sure you get the correct updates from your broker.
Thanks,
Mark
