Hi alan green,
Are you looking at the "Gain" field in the "Portfolio Performance" report? If so, look at the other fields next to it, like Ending Value, Beginning Value, and your contributions/withdrawals to see how you are making a gain. The gain is a combination of all these items:
Gain = End Value + Withdrawals + With-Distrib. - Contributions - Beg Value
If you have a question on the Gain, make sure all the other numbers make sense. For example, if the End Value is incorrect, look at your recorded transactions/prices, to make sure you own the right number of shares, and the closing price on the ending report date is correct. You can look at this in the Data Register.
The other possibility is that you have accrued interest that is being accounted for. Is the title of the report showing "End Value + Acc Int"? If so, it is adding in interest that you've accrued, based on the recorded "Income" properties you've set for your bond. You can control whether or not this report includes accrued interest under "Options / Report Preferences... / Portfolio Performance / Include Accrued Interest".
