Graphs date range defaults

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Hi Mark,

When looking at a graph, if I change the date range I have the option of "Applying the Change to All Open Investments." But as far as I can tell this only holds as I cycle through the investments in the current portfolio. If would be very nice if that logic could be made available to set the default date range for all graphs for the entire session. Even better would be the ability to save that default even when the program is closed and reopened.

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

That graph option applies to all open investments, from all sub-portfolios. It does however only affect that one graph window. The date ranges are memorized on a per-graph window basis. Those date ranges are stored if you keep that graph window saved as part of your portfolio file (*.mm4). Once you close a graph window, the date preferences you've set for that window are discarded. It would be nice to improve these preferences, like maybe having memorized graphs, like we have for reports.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I understand your answer but it doesn't seem to accomplish what I am asking for. I regularly use a graph to browse through my holdings. I normally want the date range to be "Earliest Transaction to Date," but the graphs always open to the default of "Earliest Price to Date." I can change this for the current graph window and browse through the investments in that subportfolio with the arrow keys, but when I move to the next subportfolio I must close the graph window and start all over again. What I am looking for is a way to keep this date range so I don't have to reset it for each subportfolio. Is there a way to do this? I don't think memorizing graphs is the answer.

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

How are you "moving to the next subportfolio"? You don't want to "close" the graph window when you switch sub-portfolios. That will cause you to lose your preferences you've already set. Once you set the date range for all your investments, just use that same graph window. You can switch sub-portfolios by just selecting the desired one from the top level "Portfolio" menu.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

That meets my need. Thanks Mark. I didn't realize I could change the subportfolio without closing the graph window.
