Distribution Summary Report

I am havinbg a problem with the distribution summary report double counting dividends.

Upon downloading from my brokerage company I had a dividend appear as "cash" in the cash account, but not showing as a dividend in the stock data register, itself. I deleted the cash transaction in the cash data register and manually recorded the distribution as a non reinvested dividend (which it is) in the stock data register. It now shows a dividend distribution under the stock name. However, when I run the distribution report, it shows the correct amount for the dividend in the stock's line item in the report, but double counts it in the bottom line grand total for the account. Any reason why this should occur?

Hi trader1,

It sounds like the original dividend may have been recorded in a different investment than you were looking at. Maybe a hidden investment? Try turning on "View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios" and see if that doesn't clarify why the totals are showing that way.

Unfortunately turning on hidden investments does not show a dividend being recorded in a different investment. I zeroed out the dividend in question and the totals for the distribution still show it is being counted somewhere, but not from a file/investment that I see.

Is there maybe a scroll bar on the report, that would scroll other investments into view?

If that isn't the problem, can you either post or email me a screen shot of this report in question, while "View / Hidden Investments" is checked? I've just sent you an email, so you can reply to that if you want to send it that way.

Try also going to "Options / Report Preferences... / Distribution Summary" and turn OFF all 3 of the "Exclude Investments" options. Whether these options are on or off the totals should always sum up in either case, but this may help isolate the problem.

Hi Mark,

When I read your first message I opened/unhid the sold assets rather than viewing hidden assets. When I viewed the hidden assets I found the dividends in an asset downloaded from the brokerage firm with a cusip # but no other information. I deleted that and everything looks correct. Thanks for your help and I apologize for not reading your first message more closely.
