Convert Transaction Type (Sell to Fee)

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby ballardian » Sun Sep 02, 2012 9:26 am

I was wondering if there was a simple wizard/way to convert from a sell transaction to a fee transaction? I have 2 years worth of data that all the fees have been imported as sell data and I'd like to correct that. At this time I know I can export ALL transactions, fix each line item, and reimport the whole lot. I'm not likely to do all the transactions in one sitting so I'd prefer to do it in the interface where something like hightlight the sell transaction, right click and then convert... select fee transaction and FM would change all the appropriate fields/nomiclature along with any input it asks of me. I can't find a way to do this and suspect there isn't one. However, if there is I'd love to use it so I thought I'd check.

Alternatly, is there a better way to achieve what I am trying to do which is simply change many sell transactions to fee transactions?

Thanks,
-C

Hi ballardian,

Fund Manager doesn't have a way to convert a buy/sell type of transaction into a distribution (fee) type of transaction. To do this manually you would need to delete the buy/sell, and add the fee. You could also do as you describe, and export all transactions, modify the CSV file, and re-import into a new portfolio.

If you plan to do the manual method, and want a list of all sell transactions, you can create an Investment Transactions report, and filter by transaction type, so it only displays sell transactions. If the sell transactions you want to convert happen to have a specific piece of text in the memo, you can also filter by that to narrow down the list of transactions to only the ones you want to convert.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the quick reply. I was afraid that was going to be the answer. It would be a nice feature to have in a future release so if/when I make a manual/import mistake I could easily convert the transaction rather than delete and reenter the duplicate information in. Even if the wizard was a simple "show me the original transaction details with a fill in all the new details of the new transaction and upon completion it would delte the old and create the new one" that would make it a much less painful process.

Thanks,
