I am trying to manually records dividends.
I go to the Data Register and click on "New". That brings up the "Buy/Sell Transaction" dialog. I want to record a dividend distribution and I am not sure how to do that. This is FM 9.x.
Thank you

Why won't FM let me record dividends?

Ok, something weird.
I imported transactions from the broker and all the dividend reinvestments got recorded as Purchase and clicking the "Edit" button on the data register won't let me change the "Buy" into a "dividend reinvest" transaction. Am I missing something? Aren't the "New" and "Edit" buttons supposed to make changes to the transaction type? Thanks for your time.
Hi tedzo,
In v9 in the Data Register if you are on "Investments (all)" and press "New..." you will be prompted for a new buy or sell. Change the data type to "Distributions (all)" to record a new distribution. You cannot change a purchase type transaction into a distribution. You would need to delete it and re-add it. I suspect you have already both a distributed distribution, plus a purchase. You can simply delete the purchase, and edit the distributed distribution, to make it reinvested. The combination of a purchase + dist. distribution is equivalent a reinvestment. The broker may report your transactions this way, so Fund Manager retrieves them that way. In the current versions, Fund Manager will automatically make this change for you (recording a reinvestment instead of a purchase + dist. distribution) upon retrieving transaction, but that was not an option in the 9.x versions.
