Mark,

When I have clients across the desk from me or sharing my screen online, I need to be able to hide the names of other clients in FM. I created another, empty sub-portfolio on the same tier as the main client sub ( which contains all clients.) When I need to isolate, I drag the applicable client sub into this empty sub-portfolio, for client viewing. I then collapse the main client sub, obscuring the names of all other clients. When I'm done, I drag the viewed sub-portfolio back into the main client folder. Seems simple enough. Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks,

Phil

Hi Phil,

That works fine. Not that these ideas are any better, but I'll list a couple others you could consider:

1) Create a "link" sub-portfolio where you link the sub-portfolio to the client's sub-portfolio. This is very similar to your solution, except you don't drag/drop the original client sub-portfolio. You just have a mirror image (linked) copy in some other location. As you change clients that you're working with you can just edit the target of this link sub-portfolio. To create a link sub-portfolio, create a new/empty sub-portfolio, and press the "Link To..." button in the Portfolio Properties dialog.

2) Copy/paste. You can copy the client's sub-portfolio from the original location, and either paste it to where you drag it now, or paste it into a completely new portfolio file, where your other clients aren't listed at all. When done, just close the pasted copy.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Thanks, I like the link feature better. Will any changes, such as updating prices, etc., carry through the link to the original sub-portfolio?

Hi Phil,

The link sub-portfolio is just a pointer to the real sub-portfolio, and doesn't actually contain any of it's own data. If you go into a link sub-portfolio, and edit investments in there, you are editing the one and only copy of those investments, so yes, changes will be shown in both the actual sub-portfolio and the link sub. For more on link sub-portfolios, see the online help:
