Retaining settings for custom reports and price import

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark,

Please indicate if there is a way of retaining the custom reports and settings when upgrading from V10 to V11.

I installed it over the previous version and thought it would retain my custom settings but it only retained my normal windows settings for currency, date format etc.

I would like to know if the above settings can be retained before I do the same on my other PC's.

Regards.

Hi fundman247,

As long as you do not uninstall v10 before installing v11, all your settings should remain. Many of your settings are stored in the registry, which is cleared when uninstalling, which is why you don't want to uninstall. You can also make a backup (File / Backup...) using v10 before installing v11 in case something goes wrong.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Funny that all the settings were lost and I did not un-install but installed over the older version to try and retain the settings but it did not work.

My previous upgrade in versions did preserve my settings.

Hi Mark.
I did manage to retain my settings.
I looked after installing ver 11 and closing FM. and my setting were gone after restoring from my backup.
However after rebooting all my custom setting strings were back.
Thanks for the info to retain settings via backup and restore instead of copying and loosing the strings.

Regards.

Hi fundman247,

Glad you got it working. Normally if you are upgrading on the same machine from one version to another it is not necessary to restore. Just installing the new version right over the old should retain all your settings/data. Only when moving from one computer to another would you need to use the backup/restore.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark,

I did not check after an upgrade on the same PC by rebooting. Just checked by closing FM. I then started redoing all my custom imports.

With the settings retained by importing from backups I will in future at least try after reboot on the same PC before starting the battle to get all the custom import strings working again.

Regards.
