Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Good_Vibe » Sun Nov 18, 2012 1:26 pm

Dear Mark:

SInce 2001 we have held a REIT which is not publicly traded. That REIT was purchased by WP Carey Inc. October 1, 2012. How can I preserve the investment history (lots of dividends) for the now non-existent REIT and also convert it to WPC (symbol for WP Carey Inc.)?

In exchange for our 3500 shares of the "private" REIT valued at $10.40 per share we received 814 shares of WPC plus $4,379.51 cash. By the way, WPC is a public corporation traded on the NY stock exchange.

How in the world do I go about instructing Fund Manager regarding this change?

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,

You could record this as a split plus a distribution for the cash you received. The split can be recorded for any ratio, so record it with a ratio of 814 for 3500 shares. Finally, change the investment's properties of name/symbol, etc under "Investment Properties...".
Thanks,
Mark

Dear Mark:

You are something else! Did exactly what you suggested and it appears to have preserved the investment history associated by the "private" REIT and now reflects the symbol (which I set) for the public corp. Successfully downloaded recent prices for WPC so I believe I'm set.

Really appreciate your superb and highly understandable support.

Phil
