Transfer Transactions

Transfer In and Transfer Out transactions are similar to Purchase (buy) and Redemption (sell) transactions, but differ in a couple of important ways:

Transfer In:  Use this transaction type to add shares to an investment when the cost basis value or date are different from how much you paid, or when you acquired the shares.  Transfer In transactions allow you to differentiate the date you took ownership and market value from the tax cost basis value and date.  Examples of when you would use a Transfer In include the receipt of shares as a gift or transferring shares from another account.

Transfer Out:  Use this transaction type to remove shares from an investment without generating a taxable event (an entry in the capital gains report).  Examples of when you would use a Transfer Out include the giving of shares as a gift or transferring shares to another account.

Unlike buy/sell transactions, transfers do not generate a corresponding entry in your default cash account.
