: Hello !

: I would like to have your suggestions on what to do
: when I sell all the shares of a stock I own...

: I sold all my shares and I don't really know how to deal
: with that with Fund Manager... Should I simply delete my investment from my portfolio ? Or record a 100% sell and
: leave the investment in my portfolio ? HELP !!!

: Lucie

Lucie,
What I've been doing for the past few years is record the sell in your stock data file and have the proceeds recorded as a buy in your cash account. You can set up a cash account as an investment type and assign it a symbol of your name or something. You then have a complete trail of where the proceeds went, and your portfolio value will be correct since the proceeds didn't just disappear. I also leave the stock you sold active in the portfolio it was a part of for at least 1 year. This allows for better reporting when you look at portfolio performance for up to a year period. When you want to buy another stock/fund you use the money that was in the cash account. Or, if you want to just blow the money you made, make a sell entry in the cash account.
