: : in custom reports, for some investments, if i list dividends/share, and list end NAV, adding them will equal the number in the endNAV + dist column. however for some stocks the "end NAV+dist" is more the the sum of the previous two columns. what is happening here.
: : eg, dist/s = .60, end NAV =30.79 end NAV+dist +31.71
: : thanks, jeffrey

: Hi Jeffrey,
: Could be a couple of reaons... First, the
: NAV+dist sums all distribution types since
: the beginning of that investment, not
: just dividends. The other reason could be
: that the report start date is after one of
: your distributions. Since the NAV+dist
: sums distributions since the investment inception
: and the dividends/share (btw) only sums
: dividends between the starting and ending report
: dates.

: Thanks,
: Mark

thanks for the reply. the difference between dates that "dividends/share" uses and the dates NAV+div uses is probably the reason for the discrepancy. though it is counterintuitive. a variable (div) should retain it's meaning where ever it is used. different terms should be used in cases like this.
this is a repost. sorry, in rereading the text i realize that different terms are used. i mistakenly assumed that distributions and dividends would refer to the same items and time perionds.
