: : : I just downloaded Fund Manager three days ago and I am having trouble getting the portfolio value to match my brokers statement. I have made sure to change the dates on the report to match my Brokers (ex. June 30,1999). I am only about $9 off. In some of the mutual funds I am pennies off. I have one stock that is $5 and some change off. I have looked at the all data and the info matches my Brokers. Could this be roundings errors on Price or the number of shares. Please help. I love the software and plan on registering if I can this fixed. : : : Also, when calculating yields, do it calculate the exact yield for every systemtic purchase and/or dividends. : : : Thanks : : : Bill : : Hi Bill, : : It is important to make sure you record your transactions with the correct : : number of shares. To figure out where things are off, use "Options/Preferences.../Display" and turn up the number of significant : : digits for price and shares to 6. Then use "Edit/All Data..." to make sure : : you have the same number of shares as reported on your statement. The value : : on any particular day is just the closing price times the number of shares : : you own. Also, from within any transaction entry dialog, choose "Help" and : : then click on the help topic "Recording Transactions Without Rounding Errors" : : for a discussion on the proper way to record your transactions. : : The ROI yields include all of your purchases/sells/distributions. The Fund Performance yields only include the distributions. The ROI shows how well your : : money did. The FP yields show how well the intrinsic investment did. : : Thanks, : : Mark : : Sorry to be a pain in $%&* on this. But I wanted to give you some specific : examples where the prices on my Brokers Statement do not match. It looks to : me like rounding differences. I have checked each stock for the correct # of : Shares and they are correct.. I don't like the idea of manually updating the closing price of each month for : each Stock that I own. That is what I am doing now. It's not fun....
: My Broker is Waterhouse Securities. In case you need this info. Here are : prices from the Yahoo(historical) and Water house statment : Stock Symbol Date Yahoo price Waterhouse Price : EDIG 6/30/99 2.4531 2.450 : 5/28/99 2.8125 2.810 : 4/30/99 2.1562 2.313 : QWST 6/30/99 33.0625 33.063 : 5/28/99 42.625 42.438 : 4/30/99 85.4375 85.438 : DIS 6/30/99 30.8125 30.813 : 5/28/99 29.125 29.125 : 4/30/99 31.750 31.750 : As you can see most are only off by cents, however, if you own alot of shares : of some companies it will really throw off your ending balance. Hopefully you : might be able to change how the data imported from Yahoo rounds. : Please let me if their is a way to round Yahoo prices to the 3rd digit. By the : way Mark, I like what I see so far, so I registered this evening. Unfortunately, : $39 may not cover all the silly questions I have for you..... : Thanks for the Help : Bill Haskins : : -- : : Mark Beiley : : : : Fund Manager for Windows 3.1x/95/98/NT : : : : Hi Bill, I checked one of these. I checked EDIG for 6/30/99, and you are correct, Yahoo (Historical) reports it as 2.4531. This is how the price will be retrieved by Fund Manager. It is not rounded, it is retrieved just as reported by Yahoo. I don't know who is correct, Yahoo or Waterhouse, but that is outside the control of FM. FM will retrieve the price as reported by Yahoo, which it is doing properly. If you think either Yahoo or Waterhouse is in error, you would need to go through them to resolve that... :( Thanks, Mark -- Mark Beiley
