: : : : I am trying to make a report that shows monthly percent returns. I am putting in beginning and ending portfolio value and have tried various gain choices but it doesn't seem to do the monthly gain or loss. Help please.

: : : Hi Steve,

: : : There are a few ways you can calculate %Gain. There is %Gain-I, %Gain-F, and
: : : %Gain-C availabe in the custom report. In the Portfolio Performance report
: : : there is also a %Gain-V. Each one is documented in the online help on the
: : : equation being used. How would you like to calculate it? I can help you
: : : find the appropriate one.

: : : Thanks,

: : Mark, I just want to show percent returns for each month from 1/1/99 to 12/31/99. I am submitting the monthly performance numbers. I need the month to month % return to match the beginning and ending month to month values. I have tried all the % buttons in the custom menu and my settings must not be right. Some positives and the negatives show correctly but others don't. I assume it is due to internal starting values. Thanks

: Hi Steve,

: Are you looking for a simple %gain = (end - beg)/beg type of return number?
: If so, this is %Gain-V, in the Portfolio Performance report. One thing
: that can cause confusion, is that the beginning values are the values
: at the close of the prior day, or the beginning of that day. For example,
: the beginning value for a report starting on 1/1/03 is the same as the ending
: value on 12/31/03.

: Maybe it would be easier if you sent me one investment file, and give me
: an example of what numbers you're trying to show? I can then try and give
: more specific answers.

: Thanks,
: Mark

Mark,
Looks like %V works. Is there any way to make a simple report with beginning and ending value plus %V?

Steve
