: : : Hi Mark : : : 1. I would like to increase the size of the "Edit-AllData" window to allow for viewing the full contents of the columns. : : : Although I can drag the width of individual columns, I cannot increase the overall size of the window by dragging at the borders. : : : Is there a way of doing this? : : : 2. I've noticed that although stock buy/sell transactions are reflected in my Cash Account, sometimes the memo field in the Cash Account list does not show the Buy/Sell details. : : : I think the the ommission occurs if the Memo field is not tabbed when entering the Buy/Sell transaction. : : : If I go back to the stock and open the Edit window and tab through the Memo field even though it is blank, the Memo field in the Cash account list then shows the transaction details. : : : Any thoughts? : : : 3. Could an extra field be added (along with the extra maths!) in the Buy/Sell transaction entry, to enter amounts of Tax eg GST? At present I am adding the GST to the brokerage which is not quite correct. : : : Cheers : : : Roger : : Hi Roger, : : 1) Sorry, no this dialog box's size is not adjustable. I agree that would : : be a nice improvement. : : 2) I couldn't reproduce this. Could you give me all the steps you take : : starting from recording the initial buy/sell? Where are you looking at : : the memo? : : 3) What is GST? In general, FM does not calculate the actual tax. It : : calculates the capital gains, but converting that to tax varies from : : person to person and country to country, so we stop at just calculating : : the capital gains. : : Thanks, : : Mark : : -- : : Mark Beiley : : : : Fund Manager, portfolio management software for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/00/XP : : : Hi Mark : 1. That larger window would be nice, as it has to show "Distributed dividend from Stock Name". This is quite a column full! : 2. Let's buy 1000 shares in ABC at $2. : Procedure: : File - New Investment - Fill in the "New Investment" window using the mouse to go to each field. "OK" - "Save". : We now own ABC. : Go to Cash Account. "Edit" - "All Data". For Data type select "Investments [All]". : We see our transaction debiting the Cash Account for the ABC purchase. The Memo field is blank. : Select the transaction. Click "Edit". The Memo field in the new window is blank too. : Now go back and select the ABC graph. Select "Edit" - "All data". For data Type, select "Investments [All]". : Highlight the Buy transaction then click on "Edit". : In the Buy/Sell Transaction window, tab down to the blank memo field. Click OK. : Now go back to the Cash account. Select "Edit" - "All data". Select "Investments [All]" for the Data Type. : Now we see in the Memo field "Brought 1000 ABC". : Is there a reason that this info is not showing up in that memo field in the first place? : 3. GST; Good and Services Tax is a tax added to Everything. How has the USA missed this one?? : I take your point though and will just included it with the brokerage. : Cheers : Roger Hi Roger, Thanks for the detailed steps on #2. I can now see what is going on. When you create a new investment (File/New Investment...) the associated transaction from the cash account doesn't get assigned a memo. When you record a buy/sell transaction the associated transaction from the cash account does get assigned a memo. When you go and edit that buy/sell it is then creating the memo in the cash account transaction. Just opening it up, and hitting the OK button is all that is necessary. Even if you don't tab to the memo field this will still get updated. I agree this isn't consistent, and we should also assign a memo when creating a new investment, just as we do when creating a new transaction. I'll get this improvement into the next version. Thanks, Mark -- Mark Beiley
