: : Mark:

: : I tried the moneysense site you quoted in a post from May 2003 (http://funds.moneysense.ca/eng/investing/funds/screener/index.jsp) for obtaining Canadian mutual fund ticker symbols.

: : But the only symbols that site seems to give for Canadian mutual funds are what appear to be its own, such as AIC*DER for AIC Diversified Canada Fund.

: : Canadian Stockwatch comes up with a blank, as does Yahoo, and all in all, ticker symbols don't seem to be provided at any Canadian mutual fund web site, no matter how comprehensive they may be (such as Globe & Mail's site).

: : I am beginning to wonder if they are used at all.

: : Do you have any advice on how we should update our Canadian mutual fund prices within FundManager? Both from the point of view of what ticker symbol to use, and which Internet site to get updates from.

: : Jack

: : PS: I originally posted this question as a followup to the May 2003 posting, but that post didn't change the chronologocal order of the messages, so I've reposted it as a new message.

: Hi Jack,

: When I go to:

: They seem to have an extensive list of Canadian funds to search through, and it
: shows their symbols. This same symbol can be used with
: either the "Quicken - Canada" or "Canadian Stockwatch" quote servers
: to retrieve Canadian mutual fund prices. The "Quicken - Canada" server
: will update the prices for the last 5 business days. The "Canadian Stockwatch"
: server only updates the most recent price.

: Can you give me an example Canadian mutual fund that you can't find the
: symbol for?

: Thanks,
: Mark

Hi Mark:

After reading your message, I re-checked Fund manager, and found that you are correct, and that I was mistaken. The ticker symbols (such as TRI*CDD for Trimak Fund) that Moneysense uses do, in fact, work with the Quicken site that FM contacts.

What was confusing me was that I'm inputting an old portfolio, and so the X-axis covered quite a few years. As a result, the updated information was squashed against the right side of the graph, which consisted mostly of a straight line (my original purchase price), and therefore not easily distinguishable.

So now I want to ask another question. Is it possible to retrieve historical data for Canadian mutual funds from any of the sites Fund Manager contacts? i.e. sites equivalent to Yahoo (Historical).

Thanks for setting me straight.

Jack
