: : : : Hello Mark,

: : : : I had a system (Win95) crash a few days ago which resulted in a corrupt password (*.pwl) file. So, I was forced to created a new Windows login password. However, when went to retrieve prices from the internet, I received the following message:

: : : : "Could not create internet output log file 'C:\Program Files\Fund Manager\intlog.txt'

: : : : Check directory specification in registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\Fund Manager\currentVersion\directory location"

: : : : My registry key currently reads as follows:

: : : : (default) (value not set)

: : : : autoback "C:\Program Files\FundMgr\Autoback"

: : : : newauto "C:\Program Files\Fund Manager\my_data"

: : : : Note: My copy of Fund Manager is located in "C:\Program Files\FundMgr" directory.

: : : : Now some how the registry was affected, could you suggest a remedy for this dilemma?

: : : : Additionally, I've lost my custom reports, category labels, currency settings, etc. Is there any way to recover these too?

: : : : Best regards,

: : : : Clive

: : : Hi Clive,

: : : You'll want to run the installation program to properly set up Fund

: : : Manager under your new user. Just re-install it right over where you have

: : : it now, and this will update the registry settings, and eliminate that

: : : error message.

: : : The custom reports etc... are stored in your registry. If you can

: : : still log in as your old user, you can go export the values from the location:

: : : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\Fund Manager\currentVersion

: : : and then import them into your new user's registry. You'll want to make sure

: : : to run the install program _after_ importing any of these registry entries.

: : : Thanks,

: : : Mark

: : Thanks for the reply, Mark.

: : After the crash, I couldn't logon with my old password. The system would lock-up and display a message indicating a problem accessing the system registry and that I should restore the registry. Which I did, but still resulting in the same problem after a restart. The only way I could restart was by by-passing the login prompt, so I assumed my password list file was corrupt and created a new one and the system restarted with an old desktop. So I assume my custom Fund Manger setting are lost.

: Hi Clive,

: Unfortunately, the only way to get those custom settings back is to be

: able to retrieve them from the registry, which it sounds like you no

: longer have access to...

: Thanks,

: Mark

Mark,

I just want to report that I finally managed to restore the Windows Registry....what a relief! The root of my problem turned out to be the portion of the registry that resides in the Windows\Profiles directory. I didn't know it even existed here nor did any of my Windows reference books.

Thanks again,

Clive
