: : I just installed Windows XP SP1 and now it takes about 40 seconds for Fund Manager to load and execute. None of my other applications are doing that. When FM starts to run, the basic screen displays with the menu bar showing only File Help. After about 10 seconds, the screen turns white, the menu bar disappears and only the title bar remains. After another 30 seconds, the portfolio loads and all is normal. Seems like the delay is in the loading of the portfolio and associated investments. But, that didn't happen before loading SP1. I was running FM 5.3 so I upgraded to 6.0. Got same results with both versions.

: : Would appreciate any advice or recommendations.

: : Thanks.

: Hi TW,

: I'm not aware of why this would be happening. We have tested Fund Manager
: thoroughly under XP SP1.

: What if you just close your portfolio, exit Fund Manager, and re-start it.
: Does it take a long time to just load the program when it is not loading
: a portfolio at startup?

: If it loads fast without opening a portfolio, maybe somehow that portfolio
: is messed up? Could you try opening a different portfolio, or one of the
: sample portfolios, and then exiting/restarting? Do you notice any trends
: when running different portfolios?

: Thanks,
: Mark

Mark - Just to follow up with the problem above. After loading XP, I did a scan using MS Baseline Security Analyzer and installed all of the critical and recommended updates. After that the problem disappeared. I wasn't checking after each update so have no idea which one fixed the problem. I was also having a problem generating export QIF files from Quicken, but that problem also went away once I finished the updates. So, there was obviously something in one of the updates that fixed the problem

Thanks again for your quick reply and, as always, for a great product. I can honestly say that Fund Manager is the best piece of shareware I've ever purchased.

Cheers. Tim
