: : : : Mark: In an old message: Profit / Loss posted by Jeff on June 04, 2003 at 22:50:45:, you explained the "Gain (between)" field, defined as Gain = End Value + Sells + Dist. - Buys - Beg Value.

: : : : How can I obtain a overall gain measure like with any Reinvested Distributions also included?

: : : Hi David,

: : : The reinvested distributions are essentially included in the End Value.
: : : Can you give me an example, of what calculation you'd like to see with the
: : : reinvestments?

: : : Thanks,

: : I want this measure to show the potential taxable gain/loss in the investment if it were to be sold.

: : For example, given a simple no-load mutual fund investment that has its distributions regularly reinvested, the cost basis would be the fund purchase amount plus the sum of all reinvestments. The taxable gain/loss would be the End Value minus the cost basis.

: : For an investment that may have many reinvested distribution amounts over the years, plus other possibles types of transactions, it is not easy to manually calculate the gain/loss tax consequences of a potential sale. For a large portfolio containing many investments, it's even more difficult assess tax impacts and easily choose investments to sell or hold.

: : Hope this helps to explain my question.

: Hi David,

: These fields are available now in the "Custom" report. See:

: Tax basis, FIFO (ending)
: Tax basis unrealized gain, FIFO (ending)
: Tax basis, AVG (ending)
: Tax basis unrealized gain, AVG (ending)

: These do include the cost of any reinvestments.

: Thanks,
: Mark

OK, thanks. This leads to a few more questions.

Where can I find the definitions/explanations of these fields and others in the program?

Is there a way to add a title to the custom report in place of the "Custom" label?
