: : : Mark,

: : : This morning I did a historical price retrieval for an open portfolio for prices thru yesterday, 12-01-04. I then displayed a report with the period set to Earliest to Date, and all worked correctly, meaning the report data was thru 12-01-04. I then changed the retrieval option to real time and after a number of price retrievals I displayed the same report and the period setting displayed Custom, with and end date of 12-01-04. In the report preferences dialog the Float End Date is check so I would have assumed the report would have included prices for today. Is this correct behavior?

: : : Thank,
: : : Gary T.

: : Hi Gary,

: : When you say you "displayed the same report", how did you do that? Did you
: : recall a memorized report, or just switch back over to the report window,
: : etc...?

: : The report periods that say "To Date" mean they end on the date of the
: : last recorded price on/before the current date. When you only had prices
: : up to 12/1, the default ending report date would be 12/1. However, once you
: : retrieved a price for 12/2, then 12/2 became the default ending date.
: : If you had already created the report, and then retrieved prices, this does
: : not cause the report date to update automatically. The report date is
: : set when you create the report. You can create reports by choosing
: : the desired report type from the "Reports" menu, or by recalling a
: : memorized report, or be opening a portfolio.

: : Memorized reports or reports recalled in portfolios can both have the
: : "Float End" option. You set this for a memorized report when you memorize
: : the report. You set this option for all reports in a portfolio under
: : "Report Preferences / General".

: : The "floating" of the end date only occurs when you recall the memorized
: : report, or when you open the portfolio that contained a stored report. It
: : does not happen on a report window that is currently being displayed.

: : Thanks,
: : Mark

: Mark,

: I will go step by step as to whatI am doing and document here:
: 1. This morning 12-03-04 I started FM7 which contains an opened portofolio. The Options / Internet Setting default quote server was left as Yahoo (Real-Time) when I closed FM7 yesterday.
: 2. I change the default quote server to Yahoo (Historical), then press OK in the dialog.
: 3. I then do an internet retrieve (Ctrl+I). The Historical Price Retrieve Dates dialog defaults From: yesterday 12-02-04 To: today 12-03-04, which is odd since there are no historical prices for today. However that is not my question. I change the dates From: Monday 11-29-04 To: yesterday 12-02-04 then press OK. The retrieve works as expected.
: 4. I then display a report using the Reports / Portfolio Performance menu. The report settings dialog is displayed with the date settings defaulted to Period: Earliest to Date with an end date of yesterday 12-02-04. This I would expect since the portfolio only contains data thru yesterday. I press Done and the report is computed and displayed correctly.
: 5. I then close the report and change the default quote server to Yahoo (Real-Time). I then do an internet retrieve, and current prices (12-03-04) for the funds in the portfolio are retrieved.
: 6. I then display a report using the Reports / Portfolio Performance menu. The report settings dialog displayed with the date settings Period: Custom with and end date of yesterday 12-02-04. This is were I am confused. The report Options / Report Preferences Float End Date is checked. Since the latest data in the portfolio includes todays 12-03-04 current prices, shouldn't the date settings Period be defaulted as Earliest to Date with an End Date of Today 12-03-04.
: Hope this dissertation has not been to confusing.

: Thanks,
: Gary T.

Mark,

After submitting the above I did exit FM and restarted with the last portfolio. When I did this the end dateof the report reflected today. I guess this is the behavior you have described for the Float End Date option. However, as documented above once I start a FM session I normally do not close a portfolio that I am working with.

Thaks again.
Gary T.
