: I just upgraded to FM 7.0 and would like to setup subportfolios. However, I already have 3 different portfolios, each of them has investments that are NOT duplicated in the other portfolios (i.e., one for IRA, one for Variable Annuity, one for Taxable account, etc.) and all I'd like to do is have these 3 "sub-portolios" owned hierachically by one "Master Portfolio". Can I do this just by adding the 3 individual portfolio files to one new "Master Portfolio" ? Would look like this:

: Master Portfolio
: |
: |
: ---- IRA
: |
: |
: ---- Variable Annuity
: |
: |
: ---- Taxable Account

: Thanks in advance. Jim.

Hi Jim,

Yes, you can do this, and it sounds like a good idea. To do this, use the
Portfolio Editor under "View / Portfolio Editor". You'll also want to
use the copy/paste function to copy your investments from your various
6.x portfolios into your one new master portfolio. In your one new master
portfolio set up all the sub-portfolios you want, and then use "File / Open
Portfolio..." to go open your old portfolio, and use the Portfolio Editor
in your old portfolio to select all the investments, and then use "Edit / Copy"
to copy them to the clipboard. Then, go back to the new portfolio you're
setting up with "File / Open Portfolio..." again (or choose it from the
list of recent portfolios at the bottom of the File menu). Then, go to the
sub-portfolio you want to put the just copied investments into, and use
"Edit / Paste ". Repeat that for each of your old portfolios, and then you'll
end up with one new portfolio file like you've described above.

Thanks,
Mark
