: : When I go to "open investments", my .dat files have several copies of each investment. I do not know how they got in there and I would like to know how to delete them and if I will cause a problem by doing so. When opening an investment for a portfolio, these copies make it cumbersom to find an investment.

: Hi Jan,

: By "copies" do you mean investment names with the same symbol in them? Like,
: maybe IBM.dat, IBM1.dat, etc? You can't have the exact same filename more than
: once in a particular folder. Each time you create a new investment you will
: be prompted to save to a *.dat file. The other way new investments can get
: created is automatically when you retrieve transactions, if you have that
: option turned on. I'd recommend using the "Portfolio Editor" to figure
: out which investment files you're really using. Just select a sub-portfolio
: on the left, and look at the "Located In" and "Filename" columns on the right.
: If you're using any of these investments then you wouldn't want to delete them.

: You can't "delete" a file from within Fund Manager, you can only close an
: investment. To actually delete a file you can use Windows Explorer, or something
: like that.

: Thanks,
: Mark

Hi Mark, Thanx for your reply. I should have mentioned that I have an old version of FM: 4.7.344. I do not seem to have a Portfolio Editor. An example of these copies would be: Copy of IBM.dat, Copy of SBC.dat, Copy(4) of IBM.dat, Copy(5) of IBM.dat. (The original "IBM.dat" and "SBC.dat" are also in there.) I am not sure what you mean by "retrieve transactions". I do Retrieve from the Internet to update prices. I there a setting I could change so that these copies do not keep do not keep multiplying?
