: : For the portfolio gain graph I'm looking at "historical costs". Transactions have taken place withing the date range, but I would think each graph would take those tranactions into account. I still don't understand how one graph shows a loss and the other a gain. I sure the gain graph is correct where I have a small portfolio loss. Since I do have a loss then why would my portfolio in the overlay graph show 100.02? It seems like should be less than 100??

: Both graphs do take the transactions into account, but the hypothetical price + distributions that are plotted on the "Portfolio / Investments Overlay / Price + Distributions" graph is re-adjusted to your portfolio holdings only on a daily basis. This means at the end of each day the weightings of each investment are re-adjusted and these weightings along with the share price change of each investment are used to calculate how much the hypothetical portfolio price changed. If you have transactions that don't necessarily happen at the closing price this will be one way you could accumulate some differences between the two graphs. The gain graph calculates your actual gain on real dollars. The portfolio overlay graph is calculating a hypothetical price based on changes in "closing" prices. If you'd like you can choose "Help / Help on Graph" for some more description of how these graphs are calculated.

OK, I understand now. But it would seem to me the best thing to do is base the Portfolio Overlay graphs on "actual" portfolio performance. I thought that was the hold point of the Overlay graphs, to see how my portfolio performed relative to the other investments I selected for the overlay. In my case I like see my portfolio relative to the S&P 500 and NASDAQ indices. Now I know it is not quite correct, bummer.
