: Hi:

: I live in Canada and bought some US stock. I've read the documentation and some previous posts on setting the 2 different currencies but still can't seem to get it right. This is the setup:

: My default currency is $ (CDN)

: I've set up 2nd currency U (for USD) and set it to USD-CDN Exchange investment rate (USDCAD=X at Yahoo). The currency exchange investment was able to get the price update from Yahoo.

: I've set the US stock to U and recorded the initial purchase in US$.

: However, in my Portfolio performance report, the values are always listed in US$ and not in the deafault currency. The Exchange Rate Adjusted option has no effect.

: What am I doing wrong? I want the values to show up in CDN$ in the reports.

: Also, it appears that if the exchange investment is hidden, it's not available in the Currency setting dialog?

: I'm still running 5.3 version, so could that be the reason?

: Thx,

: Pp

Hi Pp,

Since you have your default as CDN, you should be using: USDCAD=X instead of CADUSD=X. For example, today 0.822 USD == 1.0 CDN. It sounds like you have everything else set up right.

You should still see a difference though when you toggle on/off "View / Exchange Rate Adjusted". I would suggest double checking with "Edit / All Data..." that you don't have a price of 1.0 recorded for your exchange rate. I'd also double check your settings under "Options / Currency Settings...". This should all work in 5.3 as well. In 7.2 you can see hidden investments for your choice in the Currency Settings... dialog. I don't recall exactly how that worked in 5.3.

If you still can't get it working, you can send it to me, and I'll take a look at it in version 7.2.

If you're looking at a report, like the Portfolio Value reort, and you look at the column for "Value ($)" it should toggle to "Value (na)" when you have the exchange rate adjustment turned off?

Thanks,
Mark
