Re: problems retrieving transactions[ Q2 03 - Q4 05 Archive ] [ Current Message Board ] [ Archives ] [ Search ] Posted by Tom on June 22, 2005 at 16:22:39:In Reply to: Re: problems retrieving transactions posted by Mark on June 22, 2005 at 14:19:12: : : By this time I concluded: 1) selecting a subportfolio on the retrieve transaction dialog box determines to which portfolio the transactions will be applied, if they are selected in the preview screen. It does NOT determine which transactions will appear in the preview screen. Therefore the user needs to know which investment is in which subportfolio. Is this correct? 2) one could inadvertently retrieve a transaction into the wrong portfolio. I think the user should watch out for the "new" flag and be very careful in using the option to create a new investment for the transaction if one does not exist in the portfolio listed in the retrieve dialog. [It would be useful to see the portfolio name in the preview screen - i.e. the name specified by the user in the previous screen.] 3) I cannot account for why I couldn't see the 7 FINPX transactions yesterday. I must have got myself confused by the various option settings. : Hi Tom, : Sounds like you made a lot of progress, that is good... I'm not sure the above conclusions are what I would have expected. I thought about this some more, and realized what may be happening. When Fund Manager tries to find an investment for any retrieved transaction it looks in any sub-portfolio with a matching account number. When you have multiple sub-portfolios with the same account number, it will only look in one of them, the first one it finds with a matching account number. This wasn't what I intended, and you made me think of this situation. I will get it fixed for the next release, so that it looks in the retrieved sub-portfolio, rather than any one with a matching account number. Do you think this would help explain what you were seeing? : Thanks, Hi Mark, I compared your comment and question to my notes of the experiments. FM seems to display the same transactions in the preview pane regardless of which portfolio is specified for retrieval, when the option to Skip transactions already in FM is off, as you had predicted earlier. I just ran another experiment. I did a retrieve transactions using the original settings you proposed to me -- except that I turned ON the option to Skip transactions already in FM. [I know that all the transactions are already recorded in FM.] I also know that the number of transactions available for retrieval is 63. Some of them, maybe 30, showed up in the preview pane. I think your hypothesis is the reason why any showed up at all. So yes, I think your explanation would explain some of what confused me. Thanks.
